Federal Tax Payment Information

Please Note - when making payments online please use the name and SSN  of the first taxpayer listed on the tax return.  If the first SSN is not used, then payments may not be applied correctly

Payment Instructions:

  • Select the “Pay Now with Direct Pay” link to make a payment from your checking account.  There is no processing fee for this option.  Payments can also be made by debit or credit card, but additional processing fees may apply. If you have an IRS account or would like to create one, the best option is to select “Go to Your Account” to make a payment. 

  • Reason for Payment:

    • Select “Balance Due” when making payments on a tax return

    • Select “Estimated Tax” when making estimated tax payments

    • Select “Extension” when making payments on an extension filing

    • Select “Amended Return” when making payments for an amended tax return

    • Select “CP2000…” when making payments on a CP2000 notice

    • Select “Proposed Tax Assessment” when making payments from certain other notices

  • Apply Payment to:

    • Select “Income Tax - Form 1040” when making payments on a tax return

    • Select “1040ES (for 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ)” when making estimated tax payments

  • Select tax year for payment

  • Verify identity using the information from your prior year tax return.

  • Save a screenshot of the payment confirmation page for your records
